Allowing curiosity to bloom

Available to children from their 3rd birthday, our Nursery is designed to foster a love for learning through play and exploration. We provide a supportive, structured environment inspired by the best educational models, ensuring each child thrives. With a pedagogical approach inspired by Scandinavian models, the goal is to ensure children flourish both academically and socially. Parents are encouraged to visit and experience our joyful, engaging atmosphere firsthand.

The Nursery Journey

Children will develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively during their nursery years. At Kelvinside, each part of our Early Years journey is designed to ensure that everyone flourishes in the right surroundings, with an appropriate level of challenge, support, and engagement for their developmental stage. From one-year-olds at our KA Green Forest Nursery to Nursery 1 and Nursery 2 at Kelvinside Nursery, each step is designed to build confidence, skills, and a strong foundation for future learning.
  • Nursery 1 – Age 3-4

Children can join our N1 class from their 3rd birthday. Through engaging play opportunities, children learn essential skills like listening, following instructions, and cooperating in groups, all guided by caring staff who promote emotional well-being and confidence. The Nursery staff, all fully qualified Early Years Practitioners, provide a nurturing and creative learning environment.

  • Nursery 2 – Age 4-5

N2 is the pre-school year at our nursery, where children make regular visits to different areas of the school to ensure a smooth transition to Junior 1. Children engage in messy play, physical activities, imaginative play, and role play, allowing creativity and logical thinking to bloom. Outdoor learning is also emphasised, with access to extensive play areas and a weekly Forest Kindergarten experience that promotes physical activity and independence through nature exploration.

  • Green Forest Nursery – Age 1-5

As young as age 1, children can join our sister Nursery, Green Forest Nursery in Milngavie. Set amidst beautiful woodland, it benefits from a natural setting that enhances learning and play. Outdoor activities are a cornerstone of our nursery curriculum, allowing children to connect with nature, develop physical skills, and learn about the world around them in a hands-on, meaningful way.

  • Transition – Nursery To J1

During their nursery years at Kelvinside, children participate in various Junior School activities, including PE lessons, library visits, concerts,  and dining hall lunches. They attend assemblies in the Gilchrist Theatre and regularly meet teachers and their future Junior One pupil buddies. At ages 4 or 5, they transition to our Junior School, where structured learning is introduced alongside play-based experiences. The carefully structured transition ensures that children settle quickly and comfortably into J1.
